I am spending most of my days in bed but I am feeling a little bit stronger each day since Monday; I'm walking and moving around with much less steadying myself on walls or using my cane. I don't have much endurance so if I'm up it's only for a short time, but I try to get up and walk every hour or so unless I'm sleeping or napping.
I'm experiencing a lot of head pressure and brain fog so it's been difficult to focus and talk for long periods of time without completely exhausting my brain. So far, aside from this, most of my symptoms that are distinctively Lyme symptoms have been relatively low and for this we are so thankful.
I started both vitamin C and glutathione IV treatments on Monday and Wednesday this week to help with my recovery and those will continue for the next six weeks. I'm not able to drive so I have some wonderful friends who are driving me to and from those... Thanks so much guys, you know who you are! :) My naturopath doctor also put me on a high dose liquid iron supplement among other immune support vitamins, probiotics, and enzymes and I'm feeling the "boost". I hear I'm still looking pale but I'm moving better, less dizzy, and some days in less pain (so needing less pain meds too which helps). There's still hurdles popping up and then either managing or overcoming them and then new ones coming up, but overall this week is an improvement on last week.
Dr. A (the doctor who did the surgery) didn't end up calling me back about the blood loss and near fainting incident until this past Wednesday. He said he was under the impression I was seen in the ER on Friday (instead we made the decision to go home because I was in too much pain and too weak to wait to be seen). Anyways, he said the things we did over the weekend were good and that it's good things have started to improve, but that if I hit a plateau now to call him and he'll order tests and scans to see how things are healing. He said once again to expect a longer and more difficult recovery because the surgery was needed because of a chronic pain and illness condition. He said to try not to analyze in these first couple months how much this surgery will improve my pain because all we have done at this point is gone in and made all the muscles and nerves really mad. And I am feeling exactly that way. The nerve pain especially has been so bad! I'm trying to be patient and manage the pain best I can for now as I wait for things to settle down and heal.
We expected recovery to be like this, but it's a little harder living through it.... I'm taking just one moment at a time. There's a long ways to go, but we're very thankful for the ways in which I made progress this week and that there were no major setbacks.
My mother-in-law is here from BC now and will be staying until April 6! A nice long stay which is so nice for the live-in help, but especially that it's over spring break next week so our kids can stay home. We're all so happy to have her here. I have my own space in my room (and some ear plugs:) so if the kids get too noisy and busy I can close my door and rest, and then spend time with everyone when I'm feeling up to it. I am loving having my boys home again after a week and a half away from them. Thank you to those who took such good care of them for us during that time!
Thank you so much to everyone near and far for your continued thoughts and prayers. Also for the encouragement and various ways our family has been receiving help and support in this time. God bless you all.
