Post-Op Report

After six and a half hours Nadine is finally out of recovery and into the nursing unit.  We were initially told it would be a three hour surgery and one hour in recovery to wake up from the anesthetics. During the surgery, my brother in law and a close friend came to keep me company over some coffee which was nice, and thinking the surgeon and staff probly give themselves some cushion time and that it could be done earlier, I headed back up to the family waiting room for 11:00. There I waited.  And waited.  12:00, which was the 4 hour mark, came and went and by 12:30 I was starting to eye up the phone on the wall that was a direct line to the O.R. front desk.  But I don't like being that annoying person and just tried my best to be patient.  By 1:00, 5 hours after she went in and having still heard nothing, I picked up the phone. I was told Nadine was in recovery and that she was having trouble waking up. So I waited some more. 

After getting tired of waiting I decided to stand out in the hall for a bit where her surgeon ended up walking past so we quickly talked and he assured me everything went well, and that she should be being moved shortly.  What a relief after 6 hours to finally talk to someone about how things went! Then a minute later a nurse came to tell me that they had given Nadine some more pain meds to manage the pain and that had made her quite sleepy, and so they were going to keep her in recovery for a little while longer.  What she didn't tell me at that time was that there were complications with her breathing being very shallow and spread out after they removed the breathing tube. I guess they don't like having loved ones of patients freaking out in the waiting rooms. Probably for the best. By 2:30 with only needing the help from oxygen we were together again and they brought us to her room. 

Dr. A. came in to visit with us and talk a little more about how things went.  He said the uterus was larger than normal, and is pretty sure it is caused by adenomyosis but needs to wait for the pathology report to confirm that. The good news is that there did not appear to be any endometriosis on the outside of the uterus, so at least it was contained within. She is currently just dealing with low blood pressure, some nausea and vomiting (which understandably hurts a lot right now), but aside from some understandable pain and discomfort and tiredness, she is stable.  

We thank you all for your concern, love, and prayers, and thankful to our heavenly Father for watching over Nadine and guiding the hands of the doctors and nurses through the surgery and recovery, allowing it to go well.  

We continue to pray that the end result of this will be such that having removed this burden, her body and immune system will be able to focus on and fight the lyme more effectively and hopefully help the herbal antibiotics get her not only up the hill that needs to, and has been climbed so many times this past year, but eventually over that hill, and be able to maintain that level of health in the long run.  

Happy to be done. That's just ice on her head due to bad pressure and pain in her head.
